-CrossFit: Day 8

W.O.D.

0.5 mile warm-up (wasn't feeling too energetic, excuses, sigh)

  • 100 pull-ups
  • 100 push-ups
  • 100 sit-ups
  • 100 squats
Total Time: 42:20

This was actually harder than I thought, and I was burning everywhere. The 100 pull-ups is by far the hardest for me, STILL. I see an emphasis on back and lets in these CrossFit regimines.

-CrossFit: Day 7

W.O.D.

1-mile warm up

3 rounds of 15-, 12-, 9-reps of:
  • Thrusters (I used 45-lb dumbbells)
  • Pull-ups

Not too bad, but definitely a good one for getting the heart rate going!

Good post AC workout!

-Failure!

So, at Atlantic City, I did not do ANYTHING active :-( Figures.

BUT, I did manage to eat relatively healthy, but not really.

At least I won in poker, that's all that really mattered from this trip!!

Must do something tonight! Ah, yes Julie's gym is open at her APT complex...

-Challenge

While I am at Atlantic City for the long weekend, the challenge for me will be to somehow maintain a relatively healthy diet (yeah right), and to do something active once a day. And by active I mean more than sitting in the poker chair for 12 hours.

Knowing that I will post my attempt on here will probably motivate me to pick healthier choices and utilize the fitness center at the hotel.

BTW, the pools at the Water Club are supposed to be amazing, so we will see...I wonder if I can post pictures on this thing...yep you can...

...to be continued

-CrossFit: Day 6

Today's W.O.D:

1-mile warm-up

5 Rounds for time:
  • Deadlift - 15 reps
  • Hang Power Clean - 12 reps
  • Front Squat - 9 reps
  • Push Press - 6 reps
Total: 33:06 (~7 minutes per round, I accidentally pressed the the lap button on my watch during one of the exercises so it messed up the average)

The workout calls for 135-lb barbell...yeah, I used 95-lb. Granted some of the exercises I could do 135-lb such as the deadlift and the front squats and probably the push press as well. But the hang power clean was new to me so I wanted to ensure proper form, hence the lesser weight.

This workout didn't get me to the point of passing out like yesterday's, but it was a burner! My forearms were getting a huge workout, and trying to do all the reps in the round continuously without rest was really challenging.

Overall, this was another great total body work out - thanks Crossfit!

Now, pack for ATLANTIC CITY!!! Water Club by Borgata, here we come!!!!

-CrossFit: Day 5

Last night was another CrossFit day for me and the W.O.D. was:

3 rounds for time:
  • 800m run (0.5 miles)
  • Kettlebell Swing - 21 reps
  • Thruster - 21 reps
  • 21 Pull-ups
Round 1: 14:40
Round 2: 17:33
Round 3: 21:28
-------------------
Total: 53:42 (17:54 avg)

OK, I almost died after this workout...I had the feeling I was training for football again. I felt like I wanted to throw up and I LOVED IT! Is that weird? Another successful Crossfit workout that seriously kicked my ass.

Ryan (who is in good shape) joined me for this workout and he finished about 3-5 minutes before me so I am not in terrible shape.

-Gold's Gym: BodyFit

Today, Ryan (roommate) and I tried out the new BodyFit workout at Gold's Gym...

My thoughts:
  • About ONE-HOUR!!!!
  • This workout is not as "heart-pumping" as other workouts I have tried (i.e., CrossFit or Kwando @ Bally's)
  • BUT, it is a killer toning workout and I reached complete muscle failure. You use a barbell (set the weights respective to your fitness level).
  • You don't get much time for water slash rest, maybe a few seconds here and there throughout the workout!
  • You definitely make this workout as hard or as easy as you want; And with majority ladies in the class you want to push yourself with more weights and keep up with the instructor.
  • I did not, and Ryan agrees, feel awkward or embarrassed one bit during this exercise (about a quarter of the class is male). I know this is a reason why most guys don't try this stuff.
  • TOTAL BODY WORKOUT!!! At one point I was at total muscle failure on a lot of the exercises, which is kind of the point.
Overall, I was very pleased with this workout and would definitely incorporate this one a week to mix things up. With Crossfit and BodyFit, I think I can reach my fitness goals.

Tomorrow, Crossfit W.O.D. from last Friday that I missed, it's going to be a good one! I am looking forward to passing out from utter fatigue.

-Excuses

So, there was an 8 day gap between Crossfit workouts for me -- WHAT'S UP WITH THAT!?!?

OK, here are my excuses...
  • One WOD was an brisk 5k run.  Yeah, I don't do that.
  • Two days were REST DAYS -- yes, even soldiers gotta rest!
  • Other days I was either golfing and slash or too tired to work out
I have to stay consistant and keep up with the WOD's.

I think my plan is to do previous ones if I feel like the day's WOD is not doable using a normal gym.  Such as, I don't have those Olympic rings to do certain exercises.

-Crossfit: Day 4

Today I did the WOD from last Friday (I know, hella late, but - always - better now than never!

OK, so the workout:

As many rounds in 20 minutes:
  • 60-lb barbell Thrusters (think front-squat into a shoulder press) - 10 reps
  • 10 pull-ups (I have to use assisted after a few rounds...ok, one round)
I didn't have my trusty Nike watch on me so I just winged it.

I did 6 full rounds in approx. 17 minutes.  I must admit I could not complete the extra round with proper form (don't want to injure myself).  The Thrusters made my quads so sore that I could not walk down the stairs.  They are completely shot.  I love it!

People definitely look at me when I'm going hard with these unconventional exercises and I think it's cool! Total body work out complete!

-Crossfit: Day 3

1 mile warm-up (sure doesn't feel like one though) -- 8:29 (gotta improve this)

Seven rounds of (for time):
  • Shoulder press (I used the machine on 70lbs) -- 21 reps
  • Back extension (I used the machine on 80lbs) -- 21 reps

Round-by-round break-down:

  1. 2:26
  2. 1:48
  3. 2:16
  4. 2:27
  5. 4:56 (explanation - old lady was on back ext machine and I had to wait for her slow ass)
  6. 3:15
  7. 2:19

--------------

avg time: 2:47 per round

total time: 19:31

(no I did not sit there calculating those -- I used my Nike watch that does all that -- I recommend one for these workouts to help you improve)

This work out was harder than it sounds. My shoulders were BURNING...the back extensions were more of a break from the shoulder presses to me. These crossfit routines show you with the quickness where your weaknesses are...

...off to our last -- also meaningless b/c we missed playoffs -- softball game!

-Crossfit -> it is LEGIT

So last week -- part detox week, part vacation, part R&R -- I started a new (to me anyway) workout regimine called "crossfit" (www.crossfit.com -- it's free). Jesse -- my motivator slash mini me -- introduced me to it and it is amazing. Just what I needed in a workout. Combination of heart-pumping cardio and full-body workout. I was getting bored with the mundane workouts I was doing, whether from menshealth.com or creating my own, I just wasn't challenged and was down right bored. Crossfit, so far, has renewed my love for fitness and I hope to keep it up. The best part is two-fold: 1. IT'S FREE! 2. The site posts a new WOD (Workout of the Day) daily for you.

I suggest anyone who likes fitness and staying in shape to check it out and join the crossfit revolution.

-first -- time to join the masses

testing, testing, 1...2...3...
